Doing this helps up to understand the situation better as important details are shown this way. the close up of the protagonists face intensifies the emotions.

By showing they show loneliness and isolation. This shows vulnerability and a lack of power in the protagonist. These shots have also been used to magnify the destruction that has been caused to the city, the scenes have also been used to emphasize the emptiness of the city.
